Opening up the future of agriculture at a plant factory
What is a plant factory?
The definition on the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries website is as follows.
A plant factory is a facility garden where plants are cultivated by controlling the growing environment (light, temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide concentration, nutrients, water, etc.) in the facility. A cultivation facility that enables year-round and planned production of plants such as vegetables by performing various environmental controls and growth predictions.
Plant factories are classified into two types.
(1) Artificial lights are used to control the environment without using sunlight in a closed system and year-round and planned production are performed.
(2) Sunlight is used in a semi-closed environment such as a greenhouse. Year-round and planned production are performed by supplementing light in rainy or cloudy weather and high-temperature control technology is used in Summer.
